About the Cover

African grey parrots take flight in Lobéké National Park, Cameroon. The international pet trade, along with habitat loss, has taken a heavy toll on wild populations of this species. One hopeful note: At this year's 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP17) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), African grey parrots were moved to CITES Appendix I—giving them the highest level of protection under the treaty, essentially banning trade in wild specimens.
