Federal Lawsuit against Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus for Elephant Abuse goes to Trial  

Ringling Bros. Elephant Abuse Trial Rescheduled
for February 3, 2009

Washington, DC (October 31, 2008) - A coalition of national animal protection groups along with Tom Rider, a former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus employee, have sued Ringling Bros. for violating the Endangered Species Act by cruelly mistreating Asian elephants.

The long-awaited trial, which had been rescheduled to start on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in federal court for the District of Columbia.

The coalition of animal protection organizations consists of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Animal Welfare Institute, The Fund for Animals, and Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute.
